Content, quality, speed, keywords, relevance, niche organization, user experience, security, and external references are all part of this process.

However, credibility does not come from a single element. A fast website, for example, may provide a good user experience, but that does not mean that all the information published on it is reliable. Likewise, repeating keywords many times does not turn content into a trustworthy reference.

Therefore, trust is built through a combination of signals.

Google seeks to understand the website’s purpose, who produces its content, what experience that person has, whether the information is accurate, and whether other sources recognize that company, professional, or author.

For this reason, digital credibility cannot be created through SEO techniques alone. It must be earned through consistency, transparency, experience, and genuinely helpful content.

What Does Credibility Mean to Google?

When we talk about a website’s credibility, we are referring to its ability to inspire trust in both people and search engines.

However, Google does not evaluate a website exactly as a person would. Its systems analyze different signals to identify which pages are relevant, helpful, and trustworthy for a particular search.

In this sense, Google Search Central documentation recommends creating helpful, reliable, people-first content. Some of the suggested questions for evaluating content include:

Does the website have a defined audience?

Does the content demonstrate first-hand experience?

Does the website have a primary purpose or focus?

Will readers find enough information to achieve their goals?

Will people have a satisfying experience after reading the content?

These questions demonstrate that credibility is connected to the real value delivered to users. After all, it is not enough to publish content simply to appear on Google. You need to create something that helps people understand a subject, solve a problem, or make a decision.

Helpful and Original Content

Content is one of the most important parts of digital credibility. A trustworthy article presents accurate information, explains the subject clearly, uses genuine sources, and adds an original interpretation.

On the other hand, simply gathering information found on other websites is not enough. Google advises creators to avoid producing content solely to attract traffic. In addition, it warns against publishing many articles on unrelated subjects merely to gain positions in search results.

This reinforces something I have noticed during my studies: quantity without purpose does not build authority.

Publishing regularly can be beneficial, but every piece of content should be part of a strategy. To achieve this, we need to know who we are writing for, which question we are answering, and how that article connects to the website’s other content.

Furthermore, personal experience also adds value. When I explain how I am applying SEO, AEO, GEO, and LLMO to my own website, I am not merely repeating definitions. I am documenting a real process of learning, implementation, and observation.

It is precisely this human perspective that distinguishes generic content from original, author-driven content.

Quality and Depth

High-quality content does not need complicated words. On the contrary, it needs to be clear, well organized, and sufficient to address the search intent.

Depth, in turn, does not depend solely on the number of words. Google itself states that it does not have a preferred word count for achieving better rankings. Therefore, an 800-word article may be more helpful than a 3,000-word article if it answers the question more clearly and objectively.

Quality can be identified through several elements:

A title that accurately reflects the content

An introduction that presents the subject

Accurate and up-to-date information

Clear explanations

Practical examples

Reliable sources

Organization through subheadings

A conclusion that helps readers understand the subject

Clear identification of the author

Proofreading

Links to related content

According to Neil Patel, content aligned with E-E-A-T seeks to demonstrate experience, expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness. In this way, readers need to understand why that person is qualified to discuss the subject.

Keywords and Search Intent

Keywords help Google understand the subject of a page. For example, they may appear in the title, subheadings, body text, image descriptions, and internal links.

However, keywords are not proof of credibility. In reality, they function as contextual signals. They show what we are discussing, but they do not guarantee that the information is accurate or helpful.

Google recommends using the words people would use when searching for specific content. Nevertheless, these words should appear naturally in important areas of the page.

In this article, for example, some related keywords are:

Website credibility

How Google evaluates a website

Digital authority

Content quality

SEO

E-E-A-T

Topical authority

User experience

Digital trust

Google ranking

The goal is not to repeat these expressions artificially. Instead, they should be used within an explanation that genuinely answers the search query.

Search intent is even more important. When someone asks how Google evaluates a website’s credibility, they probably want to understand which signals help a page to be considered trustworthy.

Therefore, the content must answer that question directly.

Topical Authority and Niche Connection

A website that discusses dozens of unrelated subjects may struggle to demonstrate its true area of expertise. This is where topical authority becomes important.

Ahrefs defines topical authority as the recognition of a website as a specialized source on a particular subject, not only for one keyword but for a group of related searches.

Similarly, Semrush connects topical authority to the consistent creation of relevant content within a specific subject area. I like to call this process niche connection.

The articles published on my blog are connected. First, I explain how to gain traffic through search engines and Artificial Intelligence. Then, I discuss SEO, Google Search, AEO, GEO, LLMO, Gemini, the customer journey, and digital authority.

In this way, one article leads to another.

This organization helps readers continue learning and also makes it easier for search engines to understand the website.

Furthermore, internal links contribute to this connection. When an article points to another related piece of content, Google can discover new pages and better understand the website’s topical structure.

Therefore, niche connection does not mean repeatedly publishing the same content. It means exploring different questions within one primary area.

Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness

The concept of E-E-A-T appears in Google’s Search Quality Rater Guidelines. The letters stand for:

Experience

Expertise

Authoritativeness

Trustworthiness

Among these elements, trustworthiness holds a central position. A page may demonstrate experience and knowledge, but it still needs to be transparent and secure.

However, it is important to clarify that E-E-A-T does not work as a single score that website owners can check. It is also not a technique that can be installed through a plugin.

Ahrefs explains that E-E-A-T is a conceptual framework used to understand the characteristics of trustworthy content. Therefore, it is not an isolated ranking factor that can be optimized directly.

In practice, several signals can help demonstrate these characteristics:

Author’s name

Professional biography

Education and experience

About page

Contact information

Sources used

Publication and update dates

Privacy policy

Customer reviews

Mentions on other websites

Content based on real experience

Consistency across the brand, website, and professional profiles

Consequently, these elements help people understand who is behind the information.

Backlinks, Mentions, and Reputation

Credibility is also built outside the website itself. When another relevant website mentions a company or links to specific content, it can function as a signal of recognition.

Backlinks are links from other websites pointing to yours. However, the quality of these links is more important than the quantity.

For example, a natural link from a trustworthy page related to your niche is more valuable than several artificial links created solely to manipulate search results.

In the book SEO 2026, Adam Clarke presents link building as an important part of SEO and emphasizes the need to earn high-quality references. In this way, the work involves relevant content, technical structure, and building authority over time.

Neil Patel also highlights that competitive content, original research, public relations, and helpful resources can help a brand earn high-quality backlinks.

Therefore, it is not simply about asking for links. It is about producing something worth citing.

Page Speed and User Experience

Website speed influences the user experience. A very slow page may cause someone to leave before even accessing the content.

In this context, Core Web Vitals measure real aspects of the experience, such as loading performance, interactivity, and visual stability.

Google recommends achieving good results for these metrics, but it makes clear that a perfect score does not guarantee the top position. This happens because page experience is evaluated alongside many other elements.

Therefore, speed is important, but it does not replace relevance, quality, or trust.

A website needs to:

Load properly on mobile devices

Use a secure HTTPS connection

Display readable text

Avoid advertisements or elements that disrupt reading

Keep buttons working properly

Avoid layout shifts while the page loads

Make navigation easy

Provide a clear structure

In summary, the technical side allows the content to be accessed. The content, in turn, allows people to find the answer.

Retention and User Behavior

When someone remains on a page, reads other articles, or browses the website, this may indicate that they have found something interesting.

However, it is not accurate to say that dwell time or bounce rate, by themselves, are direct and confirmed ranking factors.

This is because user behavior depends on the type of search.

Someone may visit a page, find the answer within a few seconds, and leave satisfied. On the other hand, another person may remain for several minutes because the content is long.

Therefore, time alone does not explain the quality of the experience. For this reason, I prefer to think of retention as a consequence of good content, not as a formula for convincing Google.

Focused Attention and the Price of Attention

While reading the book Pre-Suasion, by Robert Cialdini, I found an interesting connection between attention, importance, and communication.

On page 31, the author states:

“The answer is linked to a common operating tendency capable of substantially altering a person’s decisions.” Robert Cialdini

On page 37, Cialdini explains:

“In English, to say prestar atenção, we use Pay Attention, literally pagar atenção, which means that the process comes at a cost.”

On the following pages, the author shows that when we focus our attention on something, that information gains temporary importance, while other elements may go unnoticed. This is the idea presented in the passage about the price of focused attention.

Reading Robert Cialdini also made me realize that attracting attention is not the same as earning trust.

Content may capture attention for a few seconds. However, only consistency, clarity, and usefulness can build credibility over time.

In addition, he shows that the way a message is presented can direct someone’s focus. The example of therapist Milton Erickson demonstrates how lowering his voice caused patients to lean forward so they could hear him more clearly. This physical movement increased their attention and interest in the information.

This idea can also be applied to digital content.

A title directs attention.

An introduction shows what will be learned.

Subheadings organize the path.

Images highlight information.

Links indicate the next step.

Keywords help identify the subject.

However, there is a price: when we place too much emphasis on only one piece of information, other important elements may be ignored.

That is why we should not create sensationalized titles that promise something the text does not deliver. We may earn the click but lose the reader’s trust.

In other words, attention can attract someone to the content. Credibility makes that person stay, trust, and return.

How Can You Strengthen a Website’s Credibility?

There is no button capable of turning a website into an authority. This process requires continuity.

For this reason, some important actions include:

Clearly defining the niche

Publishing helpful and original content

Demonstrating real experience

Identifying the authors

Citing reliable sources

Updating outdated information

Creating internal links between related subjects

Earning natural mentions and backlinks

Improving speed and usability

Keeping the website secure

Providing contact information

Strengthening the brand’s presence across other channels

Maintaining consistency across the website, Google, LinkedIn, and social media

Credibility Is Built Over Time

Google does not evaluate a website’s credibility through a single stage. Instead, its systems attempt to understand the usefulness, relevance, experience, reputation, and trust conveyed by the content.

Keywords help explain the subject.

Speed improves the experience.

Internal links organize knowledge.

Backlinks demonstrate external recognition.

Topical authority connects the website to its niche.

Authorship reveals who is behind the content.

Sources support the information.

Personal experience adds originality.

Therefore, everything is connected.

Appearing on Google is important. However, being recognized as a trustworthy source is even more valuable.

Author’s Note

This article is part of my Study Journal on SEO, AEO, GEO, LLMO, Artificial Intelligence, and digital positioning.
